Nothing makes me feel so lost and confused as fashion. As more designers and brands emerge, my expectation for innovation declines.
I’m starting to understand Yohji’s view on the industry doing too much, because that wears out its initial beauty. Trends exemplify replication of one design by the mass, where the concept is raided and recycled. I’m not saying that copying an idea is a bad thing, but the poor execution or the lack of relation to the designer’s identity represents impurity. Whether companies do it for capitalism, relevance, or other reasons, the world today lacks the confidence to share their vision.
Copy what you love, because you’ll eventually birth what you adore.
